The original home built on this lot sadly burned, but Mr. Henry B. Ehrlich, who was born in Germany in 1849, built this George F. Barber stunner in 1898, salvaging the front door, several interior doors, and several of the nine fireplace mantels from the original home. Built of balloon frame construction and 6″ thick walls and floors, the floors are heart pine and the exterior siding is cypress. An engineered slate roof was installed on the main house in 2020. During the 1940s, the home was converted to a boarding house, and later, apartments. The past two owners have painstakingly worked to restore the home to its former glory, and some work remains to see that completed. The foyer is flanked on either side by formal parlors with elaborately restored metal ceilings and original pocket doors, as well as original double doors at the back of the foyer with original rose colored glass lights.The large half-circular dining room showcases elaborate ceilings and 7 foot high curved original windows (original windows found throughout the home). Original and newer leaded glass is found throughout the home, including the third floor walk-up attic! Kitchen counters are natural marble.
