Built in 1886, the Fischer House is one of Grant Park’s most prominent examples of high Victorian architecture. Constructed and originally occupied by the family of Julius A. Fischer (1857-1934), the home sits on a prominent corner on the east side of the park.

As you step up to the picturesque rocking chair front porch, you’ll notice several intriguing details that take you back to the era of the beginning of Grant Park: the carriage stone bearing the J.A. Fischer name; the exquisite fretwork; and the intrinsic front porch view.

Step inside onto gleaming heart pine floors, all original to the home. On either side of the entry are two beautiful, expansive living areas with ornate decorative fireplaces and gorgeous original stained glass. As you make your way from room to room on the first floor, you?ll notice beautiful etched glass in all the windows and upper door panels which harken back to design elements found throughout the Victorian era. Just beyond the living area to your left is a formal dining room, complete with custom draperies, decorative frieze and an exquisite chandelier. Further exploration of the main level of the home leads to a potential main level suite in the rear of the home, with possible expansion onto the back screened porch area that could be converted into a bathroom and closet space in the future. Additionally, you will find a half bath just across the hall from this suite.

Walk up the original Southern Longleaf heart-of-pine staircase to two spacious secondary bedrooms, complimented by a beautiful back balcony space overlooking the back yard. The master bedroom features a unique turret space complimented by a chandelier and original stained glass. The master suite also contains the laundry area across from a space overlooking a faux Juliet balcony, as well as a tub-and-shower combo with dual vanities in the bathroom. Additionally, the upstairs hallway has a door leading to an expansive walk-up attic with permanent stairs, which currently serves as a massive storage space.

Out back, the magic continues with beautifully manicured gardens with walking paths featuring Victorian garden staples such as crepe myrtles, Japanese maples, canna lilies, roses, blueberries, hosta and azaleas. Adjacent to the garden is a two-car carport, modeled after the architecture of the main house, with direct access from Killian Street. From outdoors, you can access the basement through the side of the home, which offers a workspace and additional storage.

When the home was last on the market 41 years ago, Grant Park was a different place. Today, you’re able to walk right across the street to the new Grant Park Gateway currently nearing completion in Atlanta’s oldest and most storied public park, plus numerous restaurants, bars, coffee shops and neighborhood gathering places. What’s more, you’re just a two minute bike ride to the Beltline.

This truly remarkable home is well known by the residents of Grant Park and all passersby. Throughout its history, it has maintained its historic integrity, greatly complimented by the loving care and maintenance provided by the current owners. As the new steward of this period showplace, you’ll have the opportunity to immediately enjoy all the grandeur that the Victorian age had to offer while taking your time to add your own personal touches.

There’s never been a better time to own such a significant example of Atlanta architectural history.
