While we wait for the Ghost Guild to go through all of footage they got from the Allen House paranormal investigation, I wanted to share the before pictures and after pictures of the summer kitchen. Not sure what it is, but I feel a special connection to the structure. I’m not sure if it’s the size of the fireplaces that draw me in, or the date etched on the fireplace, but I am always drawn to it. Last night during the paranormal investigation, Bridget, Jeremy and I sat in there and talked. There was something about sitting there in the dark and just talking, it almost felt like we could feel something around us. Almost like an energy. So it will be interesting to see if they captured anything in there.
Before of summer kitchen.
The summer kitchen is going to be a challenge for us to save it. The foundation on the back of the structure is bowing out and pulling away. We are going to have to act fast. It appears in the 1940’s or 1950’s that someone did work on it. They put in a cinderblock foundation on the backside and they took off the chimney. Both of those things affected the integrity of the building. Right now the only thing saving it is a tree. A tree is holding up the building. Pretty amazing when you think about it!
The previous owner had her hoarding in every inch of the property and the summer kitchen was no different! It was filled to the brim with stuff. Unfortunately the weight of it has taken a toll on the original hardwood floors. We do have our work cut out for us, but saving the summer kitchen is high on our list of priorities!
