Vincent Allen Project

Old Watson Homeplace. Ties to the Allens.

November 6, 2018

On Saturday we were on a cemetery hunt! We stumbled onto this house with a cemetery out near it. You can watch a video of the house and cemetery here. Quite a story is unfolding in our research. Not quite ready to write about it, but getting close! I visited that cemetery twice on Saturday.

During my second visit we met some soybean farmers. They said they always knew this house as the “old Watson homeplace”. The Watson’s had ties to Vincent Allen though. Edmund Allen was Vincent Allen’s son. He married Sallie P. Watson. In the cemetery, Sallie is one of the few graves with an inscribed headstone.

It is an interesting house and hopefully there is original siding under the aluminum siding. The windows are the original wavy glass and six over six panes.

One of the small outbuildings was clearly an important dependency as it has a slate roof and plaster walls.

I plan to head back out today to get a closer look. One of the outbuildings had an old kiln in it. We believe that is what this is.
