Former boarding house for ice cutters. Circa 1890. On one acre in New Hampshire. $198,000

Such an interesting history. This was a former boarding house for the local ice cutters. They would eat and sleep at this house. The ice would be cut and shipped to Boston for ice boxes. This home was built in 1890. It is located on 1.1 acres in Sanbornville, New Hampshire. The house definitely needs work. Would be good to empty it out to get a better idea of how things really look. It is believed this home is the last surviving home from the ice cutting era. That one window upstairs that is down lower would drive me nuts. Seven bedrooms, two bathrooms, and 2,912 square feet. $198,000

Historic 1890’s Antique Colonial with spectacular views of the lake. Watch the loons & the sunrise from the 40’x10′ enclosed front porch. This home served as a boarding home for ice cutters. The ice from Lovell Lake was transported by train to the Boston market where it was distributed to homes & businesses for the ice box refrigerators until after the introduction & wide spread use of the electric refrigerator. The ice cutters ate & slept at this house. They wore sharp spiked cleats on their shoes. The cleats were not removed upon entering the home & cleat marks/indentations are still very prominent on the wood floors today. The 7 bedrooms were paid for & occupied by supervisors, and the workers threw down their bedrolls on the attic floor. It is believed to be the last surviving building from the ice-cutting era. The great room with it’s fireplace served as a dance hall for the sock hops & other local events. Access the snowmobile trails from your ROW across the lake. Bring your tools & imagination to restore this property to all it can be………
