This is such a massive house! Would love to see what is underneath all of that carpeting! This home was built in 1820. It is located on 3.52 acres in Hillsborough, New Jersey. Considering the size of this home I knew it had to have some interesting history so I did some digging. This was once the former home of a New Jersey Senator. This was known as Ellesdale Manor. This was most known as the country home of James “Diamond Jim” Brady. He was an American businessman, financier and philanthropist.
He was born in New York City into humble beginnings. His father was a saloon owner. Diamond Jim worked his way up from bellhop and a courier. He then landed a job in the New York Railroad. Once he started making money he was known for collecting precious gems, most notably diamonds. He was also known as a big stock market investor and had an accumulated wealth of $12 million. Mr. Brady died in his sleep in 1917 while staying at a hotel. He never married and his fortune was distributed to many hospitals.
