Sold. Speechless! The Holgate Mansion, Circa 1906 in Pennsylvania. $227,900

August 23, 2019

This has me kind of speechless! This is the most ornate house I have shared on here. The Holgate Mansion was built in 1906 for Mathew Holgate. He owned the Holgate Real Estate Company and the Holgate Bros. Brush Company, which was founded in 1775. Mr. Holgate died in 1932. There is just so much going on with this house! The exterior is beautiful with touches of gothic going on. Would love to know how much of the interior is original. This home is located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Nine bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and 6,008 square feet. $227,900

From the Zillow listing:

Here is one of the most unique homes you will see for many years. Must be seen to be appreciated. Four finished levels with 9 bedrooms and 6 full bathrooms. Most of the baths are tile or marble. Ornate features are found throughout the interior and exterior of the home including a full sized copy of the Pieta in the basement, quarter sawn white oak pocket doors. hand painted silk ceiling in the LR, chandeliers from the hotel Casey,  open wood staircase, stained glass, triple bell tower in the garden.  Built around 1906 for Mathew Holgate. He owned the Holgate Real Estate Company and the Holgate Bros. Brush Company (founded in 1775) with factories in Scranton, Daleville and Philadelphia. He died in 1932.
